Each classroom in our Little Hands Daycare is named after a Caribbean bird because Scripture reminds us how God cares for the birds: we are more valuable than even a bird, and yet not one is forgotten. “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26
Many children around the world become orphans not because their parents are deceased, but because their family does not have the means to provide for them. In Haiti, these situations stem from political challenges, heightened poverty due to inflation, limited access to food supplies, lack of social support services and infrastructure, job insecurity, and now debilitating gang activity, resulting in children being placed in the care of Haiti's Social Welfare and Child Protective Services.
It is imperative that families in Haiti have an alternative to child abandonment through opportunities for early childhood development, education, and daily childcare for their children. Early childhood development and education are keys to breaking the prevalent poverty cycles in Haiti. Additionally, a safe, educational, and spiritually sound setting for children is needed in order for children to learn and grow.
Our Little Hands Daycare exists to support families at a higher risk of child abandonment by providing free, high quality childcare while parents are working or supporting special needs children. This allows the mother and father to maintain their job, provide for their family, and allow their young children to start learning at an early age, while most importantly being exposed to the gospel. We believe giving children this opportunity will build a better tomorrow in Haiti by helping families stay together, assisting job creation, and increasing the opportunity for early education.
