Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Many children around the world become orphans not because their parents are deceased, but because their family does not have the means to provide for them. In Haiti these situations stem from political challenges, heightened poverty due to inflation, limited access to food supplies, lack of social support services and infrastructure, job insecurity, and now debilitating gang activity. Because of these issues, children are more likely to be separated from their families.
In order to address the child abandonment crisis in Haiti, there is a dire need for resources. These resources need to be in the form of educating and supplying parents with the means to provide and care for their children. Through education, food supply, nutritional supplements, social support, and spiritual and emotional guidance, families will have a new pathway to a brighter future that is empowered by a “stronger together” family unit.
We begin by assessing the strengths and abilities that each family already has. We then walk alongside each family unit and provide resources that help them thrive by challenging cyclical challenges of lack of education, malnutrition, and developmental delays. In addition to advocating for their educational and physical care, we also serve as a spiritual and emotional resource for these children and families. Our ultimate goal is to keep children in their families of origin and to reunify children that are currently in residential care facilities in Haiti.
